The RSS feeds of ArXiV are a neverending source of surprise, mainly in papers trying to apply hard science (or hard/soft science) to social dynamics. This one is entitled
Intracultural diversity in a model of social dynamics, and starts its abstract by saying:
We study the consequences of introducing individual nonconformity in social interactions
I can just imagine a punk avatar chock-full of piercings, singing to the Sex Pistols. From cross-reading the paper, I seem to have understood that if the Inconformists are quite different to the current average "culture", the percentage holding that average Conformist culture decreases quite dramatically. In any case, funny but interesting. Wonder if it could be applied to modelling
the Alliance of Civilizations (whatever that is)
